A MAN has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a photographer outside the home of Liberal Democrat MP Mike Hancock.
The altercation came as the Portsmouth South MP's son, Dean Hancock, left the house with Mr Hancock's wife Jacqui.
Hampshire police said a 37-year-old man was detained following the incident this morning in Fareham.
Police were called to the house in Fareham, Hampshire, this morning following reports of an altercation between members of the media and a man outside the property.
A man, believed to be Mr Hancock's son Dean, came out of the property and is alleged to have headbutted and punched photographer Steve Reigate, who works for a national newspaper.
A police spokesman said: ''At 9.21am today (Thursday January 23) officers were called to an address in Rockingham Way, Fareham, following reports of an altercation between members of the media and a 37-year-old man outside the property.
''A reporter received an injury to his nose during the incident.
''Police officers attended and are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
''A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault, and is being taken into custody where he will be interviewed by officers today.''
