YOU could say he is fishing for support.

Prospective councillor Dan Brain, pictured, is hoping to hook a few new voters – by meeting them at a popular angling spot.

He is dusting off his fishing rods and heading to Eastleigh’s Lakeside Country Park in a bid to meet residents.

The 27-year-old, a Conservative candidate for the Eastleigh South ward at Eastleigh Borough Council, said his “relaxed and informal” method of canvassing was an alternative to the ageold method of knocking on people’s doors.

He said: “I was looking for alternative ways to make myself easily available to local residents on a regular basis and thought why not combine it with some fishing. The fishing means I’m going to be in one place for an extended period of time and although I know some anglers prefer their peace and quiet, I enjoy the range of passers-by I meet as I sit there. It just seemed a natural place to be accessible.”

Dan will have a small sign identifying himself while he fishes betwen 10am and 3pm this Saturday.
