AFC Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley has signed Rotherham United striker Danny Hylton on loan until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old signed for the Millers last summer, but spent the first half of the season on loan at Dons’ League Two rivals Bury Town, where he scored twice in seven appearances.

But Hylton is best known for 150 appearances for Aldershot where his goals helped fire the Shots to the Football League, only to be released last year when the club was relegated back into Conference football.

Ardley had tried to sign the striker last year, but Hylton wanted to try his hand at a higher level with Rotherham.

The Dons boss said: “Danny was a player who I was keen on in the summer and I sat down with him then.

“He wanted to play at a higher level, and that has not worked out for him so far this season.

“We liked what we saw when we watched Danny last season and when he played against us for Bury.”

He added: “Danny fits the mould of player that we were aiming to bring in.

“He has good experience. He is hard-working and brings a lot of the attributes that we want from a centre forward.

“He will be a big player for us during the rest of this season.”

Hylton already has links with the Dons having been signed to the Shots by former Dons manager Terry Brown in 2006, and then scoring against the Dons in November while on loan at Bury Town.

He is expected to go straight into the squad for tonight’s visit of Hartlepool, meanwhile Callum Kennedy remains a doubt, but Jim Fenlon is available again after serving a three-match ban.

Speaking to Rob Cornell on Dons Player, Ardley said he wants to freshen up his squad by making changes.

“We need to have faith in the whole squad and I’ve told the boys that, but we have not made any decisions yet,” he said.

“I could not tell you what the team will be and we will assess the players tomorrow [Tuesday].

"They will be in here for a pre-match briefing tomorrow and we will work out where we’re going with it in the afternoon.”
