AROUND 25 fire fighters were called to a crash on one of Hampshire's busiest roads last night.

Teams from Redbridge, including the Special Equipment Unit, were called amid reports of a two-car crash on the A31 westbound near Stoney Cross.

They had to use cutting equipment to remove the roof of one of the cars and free the driver who was then taken to hospital for treatment.

The crash happened at around 9.50pm and crews spent over an hour on the scene.

The driver of a Volkswagen Polo was freed from her car and taken to hospital by ambulance, suffering from slight injuries.

A BMW was also involved in the accident and its driver was unhurt.

Around 25 firefighters attended and left the scene at 10.40pm. Police ensured the road was clear and left at 11.15pm.
