A serious lorry crashed closed a Hampshire motorway.

Emergency serviced were called when the HGV came off the slip road that links the M3 southbound to the M27 east and went down the embankment.

Firefighters worked to secure the vehicle as there was concern because of its position that it could roll down the embankment and onto the eastbound M27 carriageway.

They had to also cut the 55-year-old man driving the lorry free.

As a result the slip road and the M27 at junction four were both closed while the vehicle was removed.

The crash happened around 9.30pm last night and the road was reopened by about 6.15am.

The driver of the lorry escaped with minor injuries.

Two fire engines attended from Eastleigh, two from Redbridge and one from Totton attended the incident.
