It's the ultimate rock ’n’ roll venue that fuses weddings with wellies.

A Southampton couple were engaged at last year’s Bestival – but now they’re going one better.

Donna Clark and Darren Smith are set to tie the knot at the Big Love Inflatable Church during the festival in September.

The couple, who live in Totton, are huge festival fans and decided there was no better place for their nuptials.

Donna, 38, told the Daily Echo: “It all came about as we sat down to organise our wedding and realised that we were spending thousands of pounds trying to please others and decided to do exactly what we wanted to do.

“We had already made bookings, but decided it wasn’t what we really wanted. I spoke to my mum as I didn’t want her to be upset and she just said it was so us! We’ve stopped trying to please everyone else and now we’re going to don our afro wigs and party!”

Isle of Wight Festival in June will be a wedding warm-up for Donna and Darren, who will have their ceremony proper at Southampton Register office on Thursday, September 4, an hour before Bestival begins.

They will be whisked to the Island by private boat wearing their traditional wedding whites and wellies and will enjoy another ceremony in the inflatable church two days later.

Donna and Darren, who originally met as Testwood School pupils and became a couple after rekindling their friendship on Facebook a year ago, will enjoy the sounds of Hey Ya duo OutKast and the 2014 fancy dress theme Desert Island Disco.

They will be spending their honeymoon in boutique “pod pad” accommodation at the festival before returning for a reception at Calmore Cricket Club.

“It’s a very expensive shed,” laughs 40-year-old Darren. “But in terms of festivals it’s absolute luxury and it’s exactly what we wanted.”

A spokesman for Bestival said: “We are so thrilled that Donna and Darren have chosen to get married at Bestival 2014 and we have already put in an order for blazing sunshine that weekend nice and early, especially for them!

“The Bestival crowd has a well-deserved reputation as the friendliest bunch about – the happy couple are going to have approximately 55,000 well-wishers at Robin Hill helping them to start their married lives together in spectacular fashion.”

Bestival takes place from September 4 to 7.
