It may not have been on the same scale as previous events, but hundreds still flocked to watch as Southampton welcomed in the Year of the Horse.
Due to a lack of funds the Chinese Association of Southampton could not afford to organise the big Chinese New Year event the city has become accustomed to, but the Waterside Lion Dance group ensured the crowds were not disappointed.
Hundreds gathered outside WestQuay Shopping Centre as the group performed a traditional Chinese lion dance to bring in the new year with a blaze of colour.
People born in the Year of the Horse are said to be astute, fashionable and confident.
The Chinese Association of Southampton is holding a sold-out fundraising event at Kams Palace Chinese Restaurant in Park Gate tomorrow.
