HE’S the familiar face behind the bar at one Hampshire pub.
Now Roman Janda is hoping for the support of colleagues and customers at Romsey’s Cromwell Arms pub as he prepares to take on a gruelling challenge for charity.
Czechoslovakian-born Roman, 35, has started training for the Ironman Wales contest on September 14 and is hoping to raise thousands for the disabled charity, Scope.
The event starts with a 2.4-mile swim in Carmarthen Bay, followed by a 112-mile cycle ride through the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and a marathon run.
“I’ve got to get super-fit for this. It’s a big responsibility and you have to train and train to do it,” said Roman, who is already doing weekly swimming and running sessions to ensure he is in shape for the big day.
