STAFF have been evacuated from a university building after it was damaged by adverse weather.

Building 65A on the University of Southampton's Avenue Campus has been partially closed due to structural damage.

The university confirmed the north side of the building was evacuated and its condition will be reassessed on Monday.

The University of Southampton had to evacuate students from part of its archaeology department in The Avenue campus due to leaks in the roof.

A university spokesman said: “Most of the building is open as usual and the estates team is working hard to solve the problems. No students have been affected as classes have been moved to other parts of the campus.”

He added the building could reopen on Monday but would be closed for the “foreseeable future”.
