Trees face the axe in park

Daily Echo: Trees face the axe in park Trees face the axe in park

THREE trees could be removed from a Southampton park as part of a major roadworks project.

Platform Road is currently being widened into a dual carriageway and the city council wants to remove trees from Mayflower Park.

The work has led to traffic chaos affecting thousands of motorists in the city centre over the past four months.

The city council’s planning panel will meet on February 18 to discuss the plans.

If they are approved, six new trees would be planted to replace them.

What does road works in Platform Road have to do with trees in Mayflower Park? The road is being widened in Platform Road and the car park in front of Admiralty House is being moved back over the current car park but it has nothing to do with Mayflower Park or any trees.

Replace them with some of that lovely crazy paving installed at the central part of the High Street in the pedestrian area.

Sorry? It's not crazy paving?
