A Hampshire bus driver was injured after resisting a masked man who attempted to rob him at knifepoint.

The Blue Star vehicle was travelling from Blackfield to Southampton last night when it pulled into the bus stop outside Hythe Hospital, where three men were waiting.

One man, who had his face covered, entered the bus and demanded the money after brandishing a knife.

A police spokesman said: “The driver confronted the man, who left empty-handed and was followed by the other two men, who were wearing dark coloured hooded tops. They were last seen walking towards Hythe.

“The bus driver received a minor injury to his hand for which he received hospital treatment.”

It is not known if any passengers were on the vehicle at the time.

Police say they are not linking the incident with an attempted armed robbery at the Shell petrol filling station in nearby Southampton Road, Hythe, last Monday.

A masked gunman entered the garage but fled empty-handed moments later after apparently losing his nerve.

Anyone with any information about last night's incident should Det Con Jo Matthews at Lyndhurst Police station on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
