PLANS to allow a Southampton service station to sell alcohol 24 hours a day have been given the green light.

Global Fuel (UK) Ltd had applied for a round-the-clock licence for the Woolston Service Station in Portsmouth Road.

Southampton City Council’s licensing committee met to rule over the application.

Kris Navavatham, director at Global Fuel, had said the 24-hour licence was aimed at “shift workers, who only finish after 11pm and want to do their shopping.”

There had been some concern raised by nearby residents as well as ward councillor Warwick Payne.

But the police did not object, and no one spoke against the application at yesterday’s hearing.
