A WOMAN has died after being hit by a train at a Hampshire level crossing.

The incident happened this morning at Crampmoor Lane crossing in Romsey at 10.18am and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Daily Echo:

That part of the railway line was closed and passengers suffered delays, but it has now reopened.

South West Trains have arranged replacement buses between Eastleigh and Romsey via Chandlers Ford.

The train involved in the incident, pictured below, was stopped on the track this morning while investigations were carried out.

British Transport Police are not treating her death as suspicious.

A spokesman said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the woman and inform her family.

“A file will be prepared for the Coroner.”

A man living nearby who wished to remain anonymous said: “I saw the train had stopped, which isn’t unusual round here and then I saw the air ambulance arriving and there were lots of police.

“I’ve been here for ten years and I’ve never seen anything like this.
“It’s very sad and my thoughts are with the person's family.”

Daily Echo:

The incident comes two weeks after a Hampshire teenager died after being hit at Winchester.

British Transport Police confirmed that enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the person and inform their family.
