HAMPSHIRE businesses can find out how to cut transport costs at a free conference.

Southampton’s Grand Harbour Hotel will provide the venue for the event on March 13.

Called My Journey: The Best Way to Work, it has been organised by the city council and its partner, charity Sustrans.

A number of business and sustainability experts will provide advice throughout the event, which will run from 9am to 2pm.

Staff commuting, business travel and deliveries will be up for discussion while there will be tips on using electric vehicles and using the new Sustainable Distribution Centre to reduce emissions and delivery costs.

It is following up on a conference event last year which attracted more than 100 people.

The city council is part of the My Journey initiative which is aiming to make transport in the city more sustainable and cut harmful emissions.

Council Cabinet member for the environment and transport, Jacqui Rayment, said: “Here in Southampton we are committed to working very closely with local businesses through the My Journey initiative and various other programmes.

“I want to take this opportunity to encourage any business owners, directors, managers and employees to take part to see how we can work together to make the city better for everyone.

“We hope that delegates who come along to the conference will learn more about the future of transport in Southampton and how it could affect their business.

“It will also be a great opportunity for them to hear case studies from what has worked in other businesses and network with other organisations.”
