A young southampton family is celebrating after housing bosses moved them from their mould-covered home into a two-bedroom flat - thanks to the Daily Echo.

It comes after we reported how the couple, who are both part-time cleaners. were pleading with housing bosses from Western Challenge to rehome them away from their one-bedroom flat in Tangmere Drive, Lordshill.

Colin and his wife Samantha saw mould spread to every wall, ceiling and window sill in their flat. The problem became so bad that their three-year-old son Zachary developed asthma, caught respiratory condition croup four times in the past two years and couldn’t sleep in his bedroom due to the mould.

Now the family are living in Croydon Close after Western Challenge Housing Association agreed to rehome them.

Colin, 32, said: “I do not think we would have been able to move out without the article in the Daily Echo. It feels like the weight of the world is off our shoulders.

“This is really life-changing for my son and my wife.

“The move means my son can grow up properly and enjoy his childhood. There are no limits to what he can do now he can sleep in his own room again.”

City councillor for Coxford ward Don Thomas backed the family’s fight.

He said: “When I see an injustice, as in this case, I like to shout out loud, and when I witness that injustice being put quickly right then I like to scream it out from the rooftops. Well done Western Challenge.”
