POLICE recovered drugs after a teenager lost control of his car and crashed into a stream outside a Hampshire hotel.

Officers arrived at the scene to discover firefighters trying to release the driver Thomas Attard and his front seat passenger who were trapped in the upside down vehicle.

Another passenger had freed himself and was standing on the roadside outside the Balmer Lawn Hotel in Brockenhurst, Southampton Crown Court heard.

Firefighters were so concerned about Attard they tried to put him on a spinal board but he became obstructive, saying he didn’t want assistance, the court was told.

Prosecutor Tammy Mears said Attard was searched and two wraps of mephedrone were found in one of his pockets.

The court heard how on a subsequent occasion Attard – who was bailed by police investigating the drugs offences – was found with another teenager, George Clark, in a vehicle in a Lymington car park.

On that occasion Attard was found with £40 worth of mephedrone in his underwear. Bags of cannabis were discovered in his bedroom during a search of his home.

More cannabis was found in the spare wheel of the vehicle, the court heard.

Attard, 19, of Northfield Road, Milford-on-Sea, and Clark, 18, of Drew Close, Poole, admitted possession with intent to supply and being concerned in an offer to supply.

Judge Peter Ralls QC deferred sentence on Attard until July 27, telling him that if he co-operated with the probation service in an effort to stop his drug habit he would not receive an immediate prison sentence.

“I expect to see you have made real progress. I am giving you a real chance as this is the last chance saloon. I am throwing you a lifeline – take it.”

Clark received a 26-week suspended sentence coupled with a 150 hour community work order and a six week night curfew.
