RESIDENTS fled a burning flat in Hampshire in the early hours of today.

The blaze broke out shortly after 3am in a first floor flat above an Indian takeaway restaurant in Forton Road, Gosport.

People living there escaped unharmed before two crews of 15 firefighters from Gosport and Fareham fire stations arrived to battle the blaze.

Firefighters with four sets of breathing apparatus used two water jets to put out the flames which caused minor damage to the property.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said the blaze is being treated as unsuspicious.
