FIREFIGHTERS were called to a blaze at Winchester Cathedral. Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 7.40pm on Friday to reports of a fire on the cathedral roof.
Nine firefighters went to the scene and discovered that the fire had been caused by a floodlight being laid down on a plank of wood. The roof suffered minor damage in the incident.
Winchester fire station crew manager Phil Foxton said: “I think they’d been having some sort of entertainment and a lighting rig was left on a wooden plank, which started the fire.”
