FIRE crews have been called out after a passenger plane reported a fault as it prepared to land at Southampton Airport.

Teams of fire fighters were called to the terminal earlier this evening amid reports of hydraulics problems on a FlyBe plane arriving from Bergerac France.

Ambulances and police were also called to the airport as the emergency unfolded.

But they were stood down when the plane landed safely at 5.23pm and nobody was injured in the drama.

An airport spokesman said emergency services were called as a precautionary measure but were not needed.
