THEY ARE usually seen racing to the rescue with sirens blaring, but this week South Central Ambulance Service opted to save the day at a slower pace.
The 30 paramedics, ambulance technicians, emergency care assistants and nurses donned brightly coloured T-shirts and tutus and walked 22 miles from Southampton General Hospital to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.
The trek has raised more than £3,200 for the Anthony Nolan Trust, the bone marrow charity - a cause they chose to support after paramedic Scott Craig’s three-year-old daughter was diagnosed with AML leukaemia.
Phoebe was first diagnosed with blood cancer in October 2012. Although she was given the all-clear last April, it returned in November, but thanks to a donation from her six-year-old brother Oliver, the brave little girl from Waterlooville has just had a life-saving bone marrow transplant.
