A man is fighting for his life after being hit by a van on the Isle of Wight.

The 78-year-old, from Freshwater, was taken to hospital with life-threatening neck injuries after he was hit by a Ford Transit van.

The van was driving along Stroud Road at 7.50pm on Sunday and hit the man when it turned right at the junction with Camp Road.

The 27-year-old driver, from Totland, was arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention and was bailed until May.

Police are asking witnesses to call the Roads Policing Unit at Shanklin on 101 or via hampshire.police.uk/ internet/do-it-online/online-forms/message-for-officer.html, quoting Operation Aquamarine, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
