A man is fighting for his life after being hit by a van on the Isle of Wight.

The 78-year-old, from Freshwater, was taken to hospital with life-threatening neck injuries after he was hit by a Ford Transit van.

The van was driving along Stroud Road at 7.50pm on Sunday and hit the man when it turned right at the junction with Camp Road.

The 27-year-old driver, from Totland, was arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention and was bailed until May.
