A yachtsman has been taken to hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack on his boat.

The yacht was moored in Newtown Creek, Isle of Wight, when the owner was taken ill.

He was transferred to Lymington lifeboat after plans to winch him aboard a coastguard search and rescue helicopter were deemed too hazardous.

A lifeboat spokesman said: “With low water preventing access to the Newtown/Shalfeet jetty and roadworks delaying traffic en route to the nearest ambulance access point, the lifeboat crew took the casualty and his partner to the Red Funnel Landing at Cowes.”
