POLICE are hunting a jogger who assaulted a teenage girl as she walked home from school.

The 15-year-old was walking with a friend along Kathleen Road, in Sholing, when a male jogger approached them, claiming they had knocked over a bin.

He then grabbed the girl's hair as they argued and punched her in the ribs, before running off.

Fortunately the girl did not need any medical attention and went straight home.

The man is described as white, in his 40s or 50s, approximately 5ft 4ins, average build and messy grey hair. He was wearing a bright blue top and black jogging leggings.

PC Alexa Ward from Bitterne Safer Neighbourhoods team said: “I'm looking to identify the man involved. It appears he was jogging on a regular route.

“His behaviour was unacceptable and I would like to speak with him about what happened.

“I would like to hear either directly from him or anyone who recognises him.”

Anyone with information about the incident, which happened at 4.30pm, on February 4, should contact PC Ward at Bitterne police station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
