IT was a note-perfect start for a new Southampton support group.

Singing for the Brain, a group for dementia sufferers and their families and carers, was launched in Thornhill by Southampton Mayor Ivan White.

Dementia support manager Jane Rowlatt, who helped set up the group, said: “We were delighted with how many people showed up and we hope to see those numbers continue at the next session. It was a really good launch. The mayor enjoyed himself and said it had really cheered his week up.

“The theme was spring so we sang All Things Bright and Beautiful and She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain and some of the other bright songs about spring.”

Singing for the Brain will now meet twice a month at Thornhill Baptist Church in Thornhill Park Road from 2pm-3.30pm.

The next meeting is March 20. For more details call Kate Turnbull on 023 8061 0159 or email kate.turnbull@alzheimers.org.uk.
