POLICE and local authorities are warning people visiting Hampshire beauty spots not to leave valuables in vehicles.

It comes as more people are making the most of the good weather and exploring the countryside.

A police spokesman said: “Historically we see a rise in thefts from beauty spot car parks during the spring and summer months when more people are out and about enjoying the countryside.”

The advice from the police is to remove all valuables from your vehicle when it is unattended and make sure all windows are closed and doors locked.

“Many people know the risk of leaving valuables on display in their cars but do not consider the risk of hiding these items in boots, under seats or in glove boxes.

“Most offences of theft from vehicles are opportunist. If valuable possessions such as handbags, satnavs, mobile phones and cameras are left inside a vehicle, it is much more likely to be targeted by thieves,” added the spokesman.
