A TEENAGER’S simple dream of having a comfy chair to relax in with his family has become a reality thanks to generous Daily Echo readers.

Lloyd Carroll, from Rownhams, wanted nothing more than to relax at home, watching television with his family, without the need of his restrictive wheelchair.

So his parents turned to the Newlife Foundation to help raise the £2,154 needed to buy a specialist chair that would allow the 13-year-old, who suffers from a degenerative condition, to relax in comfort and safety.

With so many families turning to the charity for help, an appeal was featured in the Daily Echo, and within 48 hours more than £500 was donated which, added together with other donations from Hampshire, made buying the chair possible.

Mum Tanya said: “It is so brilliant that Lloyd gets to use this chair as a relaxing alternative to his wheelchair.

I hadn’t realised until recently but being in a wheelchair is quite exhausting for most children.

“Lloyd can now sit in comfort with the rest of the family.

His seven-year-old brother is able to sit with him and it’s really nice to see them together.”

Newlife Foundation has provided 251 equipment grants, totalling £436,012, for children in Hampshire, but with demand increasing the charity is appealing for local heroes to help raise the vital cash that can help change disabled children’s lives.
