Police have today stepped up their hunt after a teenager was robbed at a cashpoint before being the victim of sex attack in a nearby churchyard in Southampton.
The 19-year-old victim was using the device at the Tesco Express store in St Mary Street when his ordeal began.
Police say he was robbed and then sexually assaulted in the graveyard at nearby St Mary’s Church.
Detectives are still in the process of establishing how the victim got from the store to the churchyard and whether any force was used.
Asked about the severity of the sexual assault, a police spokesman said: “The exact circumstances are still being investigated.”
The incident happened on Saturday morning.
The robber is not thought to have used a weapon, only the threat of violence, but the amount of money stolen is still unknown.
Detective Inspector Dave Jackson said: “I would like to hear from anyone who was in the St Mary Street area from 3am, who may have seen an altercation at the cash machine outside Tesco Express.
“I would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen a group of men in the churchyard between about 2.45am and 3.30am as they may have information.”
