Southampton residents are being asked to start chatting with their neighbours for a lottery-funded event. The Big Lunch is an annual event that encourages a sense of community.

The organisation revealed that two thirds of people questioned in Southampton said that small talk makes them happier, with 41 per cent making daily small talk and 61 per cent of people going out of their way to start a conversation with their neighbours.

Now, The Big Lunch project is looking for neighbours to hold their own big lunch on Sunday June 1. For a free ideas pack with bunting, visit
