A GREAT-grandmother-of-two died after falling down the stairs.

Maureen Calder fell at her home in Royston Place, Barton-on-Sea, New Milton, earlier this year.

The 89-year-old suffered bleeding on the brain from which she died a few days later on January 15 at Southampton General Hospital.

Brian Thomson-Bialy, 69, of Barton-on-Sea, told how he had received a phone call to say his mother had fallen and told his stepfather not to move her.

When he got there he found his mother in the well of the staircase and found one of her slippers at the top of the staircase and thought she had fallen backwards.

The pensioner was taken to Southampton General Hospital where scans revealed she had a significant bleed on the brain and over the next few days she showed no signs of improvement.

Mrs Calder suffered from Parkinson’s disease, which led to mobility problems.
