A CUSTOMER repeatedly ejected from a Southampton pub suddenly produced a kitchen knife and told a former doorman who had been aiding the bar manager: “Do you want some of this?”

Southampton Crown Court heard Nigel Plows and Adrian Rose knew each other and there had been no difficulty between them until the drama at The Bittern pub in the city, where the manager had ordered Plows to leave after he had apparently smashed a couple of glasses.

He returned four or five times and each time was ejected.

Prosecutor Dawn Hyland said Plows went away for 10 minutes and on his return Mr Rose told him: “Nigel, what are you doing? It’s time to go.”

But Plows suddenly produced the knife and advanced towards the doorman.

Mr Rose, fearing he was going to be stabbed, fended the blade away and punched Plows in the eye.

Plows fell to the ground, where after a struggle he released his grip on the knife and it was handed over to the manager.

Plows told police he had no recollection of what happened but said it was out of character and that he was “gutted” because he had been keeping out of trouble.

Plows, 39, of Mountain Ash Close, Southampton, admitted threatening words or behaviour and possessing a bladed article.

Jailing him for 12 months with a £100 surcharge order Recorder Andrew Langdon QC told him: “Such incidents can result in very serious or fatal injuries, which you acknowledge.

“You have a seriously ill mother and you want to be at liberty for that but I cannot overlook the seriousness of what you have done.”
