A TEENAGER has died after a car crashed into a tree on the Hampshire/Dorset border this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene between Ringwood and Matchams at Hurn Road, which runs alongside the A338 Ashley Heath to Bournemouth road.

Sergeant Joe Pardey told the Daily Echo: “We were called to a single vehicle collision at about 8.50am.

"The collision involved a green Renault Clio being driven by an 18-year-old man from the Bournemouth area.

"The Clio left the road and collided with a tree and the 18-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance personnel.

"Our collision investigators are working to try and establish the cause of why the vehicle left the road.

"We would like to appeal for any witnesses who may have seen that vehicle this morning.

"Next of kin have been informed."

Police were called to the crash near the junctions with Avon Avenue and Egmont Drive around 8.49am.

Police and emergency services are still on the scene and the road is closed.

An investigation into the collision is under way.
