POLICE evacuated and cordoned off a Hampshire recycling centre amid fears of a hazardous chemical leak.
Roads around the Segensworth Recycling Centre, on Barnes Wallis Road, were sealed off as emergency services dealt with the unidentified material.
They were called by workmen at the site who discovered a leaking container shortly after 2pm.
One fire engine from Fareham, two from Hightown and another special equipment unit from Cosham as well as the hazardous materials unit were called to the scene.
Barnes Wallis Road and Cartwright Drive were closed to allow emergency vehicles to get to the site.
A Hampshire Police spokeswoman said the cordon had been lifted by 6.30pm as officers had examined the item and found it to be no risk to public health.
