HAMPSHIRE homes were without water this evening after the supply was mistakenly turned off.

More than 20 houses in Main Road, Colden Common, near Eastleigh, lost their supply for more than two hours.

It is understood the problem occurred when a contractor working in the area switched off a valve to isolate the supply and then did not switch it back on.

A spokesman for Southern Water said: “We apologise for the disruption in service this evening. We had 21 calls from customers alerting us they had no water and we quickly sent investigators down to the scene who discovered the cause. It was not a Southern Water-related fault.”

The supply came back on just after 7.30pm.
