AN Egyptian news website is reporting that an arrest has been made following the alleged rape of a Hampshire woman in the country.
As previously reported in Daily Echo, a 47-year-old woman, on holiday in Egypt at the time, told police she had been raped by a security guard in a luxury hotel in Sharm el-Sheikh on Thursday, March 6.
An investigation was launched after the woman, who is from Basingstoke, said she was sexually assaulted by the guard who had escorted her back to her hotel room.
Website egyptindependent.com is reporting that the security guard has now been arrested after “being identified through the biological analysis of samples taken from the rape scene.”
The website is also reporting that the arrested man confessed to the crime.
Amberstone, Hampshire Constabulary’s specialist interview team, have been helping with the investigation.
A spokesperson for the police force said they have not been involved in an arrest and have no updates to offer, though they continue to assist in the investigation.
