A HAMPSHIRE company is spearheading a mass balloon challenge over the Solent and Isle of Wight.

Romsey-based Digital 21st Event and Hot Air Balloon Services is behind the Snows Isle of Wight Balloon Challenge 2014 and up to 20 balloonists are likely to take part in the flight.

Organisers hope to get the event off the ground between April 1 and May 2 when weather conditions are favourable.

The early morning mass launch will be from Gang Warily recreation ground at Fawley.

Operations manager at Digital 21st Richard Cardy said that it will be almost 20 years since such a vast number of balloons had taken to the skies in one go above south Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

“This is our biggest project to date and most ambitious and I am looking forward to seeing these balloons filling the skies across the Solent this spring, as well as welcoming our sponsor Snows Peugeot and co sponsor Ordnance Survey on board.”
