UNIVERSITY students are encouraging businesses to be more eco-aware.

Southampton University is launching the Business Ethics and Environmental Students (BEES) programme, which aims to show companies how they can reduce costs and improve their sustainability.

Volunteer students will offer the free service to businesses across Hampshire and give them opportunities for staff to take part in interactive activities to learn and develop ethical and environmental awareness.

They will look at issues like investment and supply chain management, use of resources, carbon emissions and transport.

The scheme came about after the University of Southampton and its students’ union jointly created the programme after beating more than 100 other unions to win £175,000 funding from the Higher Educational Funding Council for England.

The BEES team has recruited volunteers and given them training in passing on the message.
