THREE people who were being questioned in connection with the suspected murder of Southampton schoolboy Blake Fowler were released on bail last night. Blake's mother Sarah Spacagna, 28, her partner Peter Meek, 25, and his brother Phillip Meek, 24, spent almost two days in custody following their arrests on Tuesday morning. Both men were being questioned on suspicion of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. Ms Spacagna was arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child. As exclusively revealed by the Daily Echo the arrests came as Hampshire Constabulary confirmed they had reopened the case following a review of the original investigation into the seven-year-old's death. The force also issued an apology for what they called the “unsatisfactory” initial inquiry by detectives into Blake's death which happened in December 2011. As previously reported a post mortem found that the youngster had died of a brain haemorrhage after suffering head injuries whilst staying at an address Cromarty Road in Lordshill. At the time he was in the care of his step father and his brother who were both immediately arrested on suspicion of causing GBH but were released four months later with no further action being taken. An inquest held last November delivered an 'open' determination into how exactly Blake died after coroner Keith Wiseman said he could not be sure what led to the injuries Blake suffered. Peter Meek's account was that Blake fell from a sofa in the lounge whilst play fighting whilst he was preparing food in the kitchen of the property. However, Southampton Coroners Court also heard how a forensic examination of Blake's body found ceiling Artex on his hair and lip with no explanation offered as to how they got there. There were also accounts given by Blake's brother who was in the room with him when he suffered the injuries, which due to his age and his distress were not deemed to be reliable. A review of all lines of inquiry was initiated following the inquest and that led to a full scale reopening of the investigation and subsequent arrests. Hampshire police last night confirmed that all three suspects had been released on bail to a date next month.
