A HAMPSHIRE town will become hub of music with a month of live performances.

Dozens of local musicians and dancers are gearing up to showcase their talents in Fareham at a number of venues in the town.

Throughout this month, the annual Music Month event will feature nearly 50 individual performances of music, song and dance from old and young.

They will take to the stage at the central Performance Podium in the town centre, in front of Westbury Manor Museum and in front of and inside Holy Trinity Church.

Choirs will be singing in Fareham Shopping Centre, and most performances will take place outdoors and are free.

Ashcroft Arts Centre and Ferneham Hall will also host a number of musical events.

Performers include Hampshire street dance group Bodyrox, Fareham College Band, the Royal Marines Band, Portsmouth City Band, Spirit of the South, Pan Jazz International, St Andrews Pipe Band, Warsash Blue Notes, Warsash Band and South Downe Musical Society.

Professional singer Jack Foley, who got to the semi-finals of Channel 4’s award-winning Operatunity television programme and has appeared at the Royal Opera House and starred in musicals across the country, will be among them.

Other events include a rendition of The Jungle Book at Ashcroft Arts Centre and the Fareham Stage Dance Festival at Ferneham Hall.

Copies of the programme are available from Fareham Library, Fareham Tourist Information Centre or the civic offices.

Town centre manager Patricia Gray said: “Music Month is a great way for local talent to have a chance to perform in public, building their confidence and at the same time raising some money for their group or chosen charity.

“It’s a popular event which visitors to the town centre look forward to each year.”
