Cyclist fighting for life after road crash near Botley

Daily Echo: Serious crash shuts road Serious crash shuts road

A CYCLIST is fighting for his life after he was hit by a car this afternoon.

The man was treated at the scene for life threatening injuries following the collision on the A334 and taken to hospital following the incident shortly after 1pm, a spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said.

Daily Echo:

Police initially said the man was in his 40s but they have now confirmed he is 70.

The Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance attended the scene, between Station Hill and Lockhams Road just east of Botley station, along with two ambulance officers and an ambulance crew.

They worked to treat the man at the scene, before the man was taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance.

The road has been closed in both directions following the crash.

Police confirmed officers were on the scene and that diversions are being put in place by the Highways Agency, but are unable to provide further information at this stage.

Nice one DE showing a photo of the bike. Any relative not yet informed may recognise it. Keep up the good work.

The bike is hardly recognisable, it looks rather a lot like most black bikes on the market.

I just hope the gentleman makes it through ok, here is no point in jumping to conclusions about who was at fault (saying before it eventually happens).

If the accident happens shortly after 1pm and the story was published at 4.02pm I'm sure family would have been informed by the time the pictures were published.

Hope he survives the accident.

70 and Police initially thought his age to be 40, go figure why people want to keep cycling. I hope he recovers enough to keep as active in the future.

One detail which should help is that a fit body with good muscle tone can take a bigger knock and survive. I was hit by a car doing 40mph, luckily bounced down the side of it, and only chipped one bone - managed to write off the car though.
