IT’S the liquid golden tribute to Southampton – and now it has a name.

Daily Echo readers Trevor and Jenny Moore beat dozens of other entrants to name the beer which has been brewed to celebrate 50 years of city status.

Bosses at the Dancing Man Brewery, who made a pledge to create a celebratory beer, handed over a crate of the newly-named Sea City Gold to the winning couple.

The team at the brewery spent weeks devising the best recipe, using ingredients from every corner of the globe to celebrate the city’s status as an international port.

And it was that maritime heritage that led Trevor and Jenny, from Marchwood, to come up with their name.

Trevor, a 58-year-old network design engineer for BT, said: “The team have obviously come up with a golden ale to celebrate the anniversary, and Southampton has strong links to the sea, so that’s where the name came together.

“We’ve had a taste of the beer and it is a cracking brew – it tastes gorgeous and it’s a fitting tribute to the city.”

Stewart Cross, boss at the Town Quaybased brewery, said: “It’s a fantastic name, we like it.”

He said bottles of the beer are currently available for sale, while it will be available on tap at the Platform Tavern once a new batch is brewed.
