POLICE had to pull a man from Southampton Water this morning after he was seen acting suspiciously around sailing boats.

Officers were called to Calshot Activity Centre after reports of an intruder spotted on board boats on a pontoon.

Police, including a dog unit, arrived at the scene at around 2.33am today and the 22-year-old man jumped into deep water.

A lifeline had to be thrown into the sea to drag the man back to shore.

He was arrested on suspicion of theft and is currently in police custody.
