Six people, including two women, have been charged with smuggling following the seizure of more than four tons of tobacco.
The four men appeared in the dock at Southampton Crown Court and the two women appeared via a video link from Bronzefield Prison in Kent.
They were accused of evading the duty on the importation of tobacco.
None of the defendants entered a plea and they had their case adjourned until July 30 for a plea and case management hearing.
All were remanded in custody.
The two women were Shu Lin, 41, of Newport Road, Cowes, and Yun Wang, 31, of no fixed abode.
The men are Hua Wang, 38, of John Street, Southampton; Jia-Ming Shi, 25, of no fixed abode; Huk Xue, 25, of James Street, Southampton, and Tian Yang, 29, of no fixed abode.
