THEY could be the young stars of the future – but for now they are fans backing Sholing to lift the FA Vase this weekend.

And who better to train the next generation of potential first team talent than current player K e v i n Brewster?

The rightback will be one of the first names on the teamsheet when Sholing take on West Auckland FC at Wembley on Saturday.

On the pitch he is known for his free-kicks and powerful overlapping runs – but that is matched by his devotion to coaching young children across the Southampton area.

He runs a mini soccer league at the club every Saturday morning for three-to-12-year-olds and he is also Sholing’s community manager.

As well as that, the busy 31-yearold, from West End, also runs a company with his partner Stacey Wilson called Performing Sports, which sees him go into primary schools across Southampton to teach children sports skills.

Since running the mini soccer league which started two years ago, he has seen its numbers swell from just nine children to now regularly having more than 60.

Kevin said: “I really enjoy it. I am hoping that a few of the kids that I have trained will go on to play for the first team.

“There is a potential for an academy here and I would love to be part of it.”

Kevin’s work has not gone unnoticed at the club, which now has more than 14 youth teams and 200 young players as well as the mini soccer league.

Sholing Youth FC chairperson Carly Kinsey said: “He is amazing at what he does. We have a few children with various learning difficulties and he is fantastic at managing them and getting the best out of them.”

Hundreds of fans – plus friends and families of the semi-professional players – will be there to see Sholing become only the second team from Southampton to play at the national stadium.

Saints won the 1976 FA Cup and the 2010 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy there.

Victory would crown a memorable season for Sholing, who have already won their league title with an incredible 104 points.

They were presented with the trophy on Saturday after a 1-0 win over AFC Portchester.
