POLICE have charged a man after a stolen 4x4 ploughed into a Hampshire home.

Kevin Peter Canney, 35, of Lydgate Road, Southampton, has been charged with eight offences following the incident on February 26.

He was charged with one count of assault by beating, two counts of theft from a shop, one count of aggravated vehicle taking, one count of attempted theft of a pedal cycle, one count of driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, one count of failure to provide a specimen for analysis, and one count of driving without insurance.

He is due to appear before Southampton Crown Court on May 30.

As reported, a full-scale police manhunt was sparked after a Land Rover Discovery smashed into a Grade II listed property in School Road, Bursledon.

Sniffer dogs and teams of officers were deployed following the incident.

Brick pillars and metal gates were thrown across the back garden of the property, causing damage worth thousands of pounds.
