OLYMPIC gold medallist Dani King MBE will be spreading her Midas touch to inspire a new generation into sport.

The champion cyclist will be visiting Royal Victoria Country Park on Tuesday to organise a race among Year 10 and Year 7 pupils.

They will be from Hamble College, Toynbee School and Thornden School.

The visit will be timely as tomorrow Dani finishes taking part in the first women’s Tour of Great Britain and is preparing to take part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer.

Dani, who was part of the London Olympics team pursuit gold medal winning team, said: “I’m delighted to be able to spend some time with schoolchildren so close to where I’m from in Hamble.”

As a teenager she cycled at the county council’s Calshot Activities Centre and benefited from Hampshire County Council’s Hampshire Talented Athlete Scheme early in her career.

It aims to help Hampshire’s athletes achieve success on the world class stage through a range of benefits, including help with training, equipment, physiotherapy, grants up to £600 and travel.
