Thousands of fans of Southampton’s Sholing FC are waking up today after a night of celebration.

Many players, family and fans of the club partied well into the night after their historic FA Vase victory at Wembley yesterday.

Today the celebrations continue when the Sholing team are given a heroes welcome at St Mary’s Stadium and parade the trophy before Saint’s final Premier League match with Manchester United.

Tomorrow they will also be given a civic reception when they meet Southampton mayor Ivan White at the Civic Centre.

It was a goal in the 71st minute by winger Marvin McLean that sealed the 1-0 victory over West Auckland and also won the Wessex League champions £25,000 prize money.

Just under 3,000 Sholing fans made the trip, up the M3 in a fleet of coaches from teh south coast and turned a corner of Wembley into a sea of red and white.

As the Sholing contingent walked to Wembley , many stopped to take it all in by taking pictures next to the iconic Watching with pride was Sholing right-back Kevin Brewster's dad Derek, he saw his son came on in the second half.

The 63-year-old from Mansbridge, said: "It is absolutely superb. I never thought he would do it, when he was at Winchester City he never got to play in the final.

“ So it was amazing to see him play today. Everyone at the club worked so hard to get here and I am just chuffed for everyone at Sholing."

Former Sholing skipper and lifetime president Bill Boyle was watching in the royal box.

The 80-year-old who used to captain the side from 1960 to 1976, never thought he would see them play at Wembley.

He said: "This is one of the best moments of my life - to see Sholing win the Vase at Wembley is unbelievable."

While his friend Arthur Fox watched on with him, he said: "It was just unbelievable, it brought a tear to my eye to be honest. For me it is the pinnacle of all the hard work we have put in at the club over the years."

Chris Brown came to the match to watch his brother Matt, who picked up the man-of-the-match award for his superb performance in goal.

He said: "My brother was clear man of the match today, he won the game for Sholing and made some amazing saves."

The club's victory wasn't just welcomed by those at the game, city leaders in Southampton were quick to post congratulations on social media.

Leader of the Conservatives in Southampton, Royston Smith, said: "Congratulations to Sholing FC on winning the FA Vase today. What a season."

Also quick to congratulate was Labour Peartree councillor Paul Lewzey, he said: "Fantastic job Sholing FC, sharing the limelight with Southampton FC."
