POLICE were called to break up an illegal rave in Hampshire.

Officers stopped the event by disbanding a group of people who had congregated in Bishops Sutton near Winchester in the early hours of yesterday.

They were called to the event after a member of the public alerted them about the noise. They broke up the event, which was being held on farmland, at 1am.

Officers seized sound equipment to prevent further disruption to residents living nearby.

A spokesman for Hampshire police said: “The event was small, but there was a risk it could have grown if we had not arrived.

“Anyone organising or attending such an event runs the risk of getting a criminal record.”

Police are appealing for anyone who knows any information about the event to come forward by calling 101.
