A JEALOUS boyfriend chased a love rival through the streets of Hampshire in a car before being pinned to the bonnet as he tried to confront him.

Daniel Johnson was furious when he arrived at his girlfriend’s home and saw Adam Sewell getting into his car outside so he raced after him, forcing him to overtake other cars on blind corners.

Southampton Crown Court heard how the chase – described as “bumper to bumper” in parts – lasted for four miles through residential roads in Eastleigh and Southampton and saw both cars top speeds of 50 miles per hour.

At one point, Johnson even crashed into the back of a vehicle being driven by Trevor Talon, and then clipped the door panel of a second car which was parked on the road.

The chase only came to an end when both cars collided in Chestnut Avenue, Eastleigh, but Johnson got out looking angry and aggressive and began walking towards Mr Sewell who then drove forward.

The court heard how Johnson ended up on the bonnet of the car and was driven along before he eventually fell off and Mr Sewell was able to flee.

Prosecutor Tom Wright told the court how “mercifully” nobody was injured during the Sunday morning drama.

It happened as Johnson, an apprentice at Esso Fawley, and girlfriend Stacey Rossiter were having “a blip” in her relationship and she had relations with Sewell.

Johnson, 27, of Ocean Way, Southampton, admitted dangerous driving.

Recorder Ben Compton heard the couple were back together and if he received an immediate prison sentence, Johnson would lose his job.

Giving him a nine-month suspended sentence, coupled with 12 months supervision and a 100-hour community work order, the judge told him: “I had you marked down for 12 months before I heard what was said on your behalf, but I am just persuaded to pass a suspended sentence. You have come so close.”

Johnson was also ordered to pay £500 compensation to Mr Talon as well as £400 in court costs. He was also banned from driving for 12 months and then must take an extended re-test.

Nice mild sentence. Won't be appealed by the defence. Don't want to be appealed if you're to become a full time Judge

Shame he didn't get a jail sentence but, from facebook, they appear to have a kid and as prison would have lost him his job he probably argued that it would have had an impact on the kid so the judge took that into account.

Not saying thats an excuse but potentially what happened.

Good luck getting to Fawley and back each day without a car though.

The problem is that , outside the public sector, pensions are so hit and miss. With various State restrictions and the damage done by Brown with his "tax in tax out" attack on dividends being paid into pension funds I am extremely glad I have my very decent, inflation - linked Civil Service pension. You're maybe a young person. Wait. It's bad when you're old. Clearly, I don't know how old Mr Compton is, but I've more than one friend who was happy to dive for public sector cover when 50 came around.
