CHIILDREN battling cancer were able to forget about their troubles for a few precious hours.
Patients and their families from the Piam Brown children’s cancer ward at Southampton General Hospital were treated to a fun day out at Paultons Park, near Romsey.
The annual trip was organised by Wessex Cancer Trust with the help of the Fire Service Preservation Group.
The 22 children and their parents travelled from St Mary’s Stadium, Southampton, to Paultons in a fleet of vintage fire engines.
After spending several hours trying out the rides they went to Romsey fire station for a slap-up tea, where they were entertained by puppeteer Geoffrey Gould and the Romsey Old Cadets Carnival Showband.
Nichola Jacobs, the cancer trust’s patient support manager, said: “The atmosphere was really good.
“The children had a break from their treatment on the ward and everyone had a wonderful time, despite the weather.”
