A HAMPSHIRE beach was used for Royal Navy exercises ahead of a D-Day ceremony.
HMS Bulwark used Browndown beach in Gosport to practice the ship’s amphibious capability by sending landcraft from the sea to the beach.
They were manned by Royal Marines and backed up by Merlin and Sea King helicopters to provide air cover.
The assault ship will lead the navy’s five ships to the beaches of Normandy, France, for D-Day services next month.
Royal Marines and an international flotilla will also be sailing for the event.
